Heroin is one of the most addictive drugs available in the world today. Because of the intense high which it can give, the pure form is usually cut with other substances such as milk powder, aspirin or plain starch. Few users are aware of the strength of the heroin they use and they therefore risk serious injury or death every time they use the drug.

The addictive element comes from the very quick way that the opioid element of the heroin crosses from the blood to the brain and attaches to the natural pleasure and pain receptors. The user gets an immediate “rush” which is a term for intense euphoria, other sensations are a dry mouth and a general feeling of heaviness with nausea and vomiting. Heroin is one the most addictive drugs found today and its use throughout the world is widespread. It is a very rapidly acting drug, probably the most rapid amongst the opiates. It’s final form, in which it available for the end user is as a white to brown powder or as a black sticky compound known as black tar.

There has been a belief recently amongst users that snorting or smoking heroin is not as addictive as injection, this has led to an increase in these methods of use but is misconceived, as it’s untrue.
